Markie congrats to Liverpool on being Euro Champs this year...

What the heck happened in the premier league games?

Why were they so bad? Not trying to bust balls I am just curious as you are a fan and get to see them play...

It would seem the coach could not motivate the players or the players basically stole money by dogging it in league play...I am not insinuating anything just what it looks like from here..

Congrats Liverpool....Thanks for a response

It was Liverpool's AWAY form that let them down this year in the Premiership. They gained 40 points out of a possible 57 in games played at Anfield but lost 11 of their 19 road games. Home field advantage is HUGE in top flite soccer but you must have AT LEAST a .500 record on the road if you are going to challenge for the Premiership Title. Liverpool is guilty of concentrating on their Champions League hopes when it was clear that they would not finish at the top of the Premiership, and it paid off! Unfortunately, it may come at a very high cost since they may not have the chance to defend their title next season after finishing 5th in the Premiership.

The truth is Liverpool are not a "Champion" team in the traditional sense of the word. In the EPL they lost numerous matches and were outplayed by a number of mediocre teams. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United were far more consistent week in week out.

In the Champions League however Liverpool were transformed. They seemed to really raise their game. Numerous times I expected them to be eliminated by "better" teams but the Cup format means if you can raise your game on a dozen or so occasions then you have a chance.

Liverpool's name seemed to be on the trophy towards the end of the run. Shevchenko catches a sweet volley from 3 yards out with seconds remaining and Dudek on the floor yet it is still not a goal!!

Congrats to Liverpool and their fans.

Yes congrats to Liverpool.

My point is that they are a good team that over performed in the champions league not a great team that underperformed in the EPL.

You make a good point, eejit. However, Liverpool pulled off the greatest comeback in European Cup history and that is what the focus should be. Some say they were lucky but I do not agree.

Liverpool is FULL VALUE for this Championship and nothing can diminish that. They had to beat the Giants of Europe, including Juventus, Chelsea and Milan to capture the Cup and that is all that matters today.

MM:

I have known American teams that didn't play well in the regular season but outperformed the other teams in the playoffs. In that regard, they are rightfully called the champions.

Same goes for Liverpool. I followed them in the EPL during the season and won some money betting on them at home and against them on the road once I figured how much of a "homer" team they were.

Congrats.

Fair point MM. Whilst Chelsea won the EPL for the first time in 50 years and had the better team week in week out their victory was won slowly and outside England would have generated only passing interest.

Liverpool meanwhile have taken all the glory in the Champions League knocking out a number of illustrious teams to reach the final.

And then on the one night when the whole of Europe tunes into the same match they were dead and buried only to rise from the ashes and claim what was surely the most dramatic victory in the history of the competition.

Congrats to Liverpool.
